The trekking package, which starts from Sotikhola and ends at Syange, is designed practically to allocate time for acclimatization to the trekkers; and offer them comfortable walking hours. The accommodations and meals on the treks are excellent and hygienic. However, you should note that you have to stay in tents in some places as tea houses are not available throughout the route.

Unlike Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Base Camp Trek which are packed with trekkers, Manaslu Circuit Trek is less crowded throughout the trail. You can enjoy the trek without worrying.

 

Manaslu Circuit Trek Route Overview

This trekking route offers an exhilarating journey through the diverse landscapes and cultures of Nepal. Beginning in Kathmandu, at an elevation of 1400 meters, the adventure takes you through the bustling city and its cultural treasures.

After a day of sightseeing and preparation, the trek truly begins with a drive to Sotikhola, gradually descending to 710 meters. The subsequent days lead you through varying terrains and altitudes, as you pass through places like Maccha Khola, Jagat, and Deng, each offering unique experiences and stunning vistas. As you ascend, you'll reach Namrung and Samagaon, providing a glimpse into local lifestyles and traditions.

An exploration of Pungyen Gompa adds a spiritual dimension to the journey. The route then takes you to higher elevations, including Samdo and Dharamsala/Larkya Base Camp, where you'll acclimatize and appreciate the mountainous beauty. Crossing the Larkya La Pass at 4460 meters presents a challenging highlight. Descending Bimthang, Tilije, and Tal, the trek showcases the landscape's ever-changing beauty.

Day 01 Arrival in Kathmandu (1400m)

Today, you will arrive in Kathmandu- the capital city of Nepal. Our representative will welcome and escorts you to your respective hotel. We will meet you sometime in the evening for trek briefing. We will dine together in a typical Nepali restaurant with cultural program tonight. Overnight at Kathmandu.

Day 02 Kathmandu Sightseeing and Trek Preparation

Today we will take you for a tour in Kathmandu today. You will cover the major tourist attractions in Kathmandu, and most of them will be UNESCO listed world heritage sites. You will be back from the tour in the afternoon and will have time for preparation for the trek that starts the following day.

Day 03 Drive to Sotikhola (710m) - 8/9 hour

Today, we will drive to Sotikhola from Kathmandu. You will have the views of beautiful green hills and gushing rivers on the route. You will have a picture of the local lives alongside the road. A long drive brings you to Sotikhola. Overnight at Sotikhola.

Day 04 Trek to Maccha Khola (900m) - 6 /7 hour

You will set off on a rough path today. After a while, you will cross a suspension bridge over the gushing Budhi Gandaki River. A scenic walk through lush Sal forest, beautiful farm field brings you to Labubesi- a beautiful Gurung settlement. After that, an up and down path and a trail along Budhi Gandaki River leads you today’s destination Machha Khola. Overnight at Machha Khola.

Day 05 Trek to Jagat (1370m) - 6 /7 hour

As you resume the trek, you will cross a river and ascend on a steep stony path. You will cross few suspension bridges and settlements such as Khorla Besi, Tatopani, Dovan before arriving today’s destination Jagat. You will also navigate a path in the landslide area and, even you will walk along gushing Budhi Gandaki River today. Overnight at Jagat.

Day 06 Trek to Deng (1860m) - 6 /7 hour

You will descend from Jagat- a gateway to Manaslu Region Trek- towards a river. You will have a view of cascading waterfalls on the way. As you climb, Chamar Peak glitters in a distance. You will have a scenic walk through various settlements Sirdibas, Ghattekhola, Cham, Philim including other places before arriving in Deng. Overnight at Deng.

Day 07 Trek to Namrung (2630m) – 6/7 hour

As you resume the trek, you will ascend to a hamlet called Rana. After that, you will head towards Ghap through woods. Mane wall on the way gives you Buddhist vibes. You will cross Budhi Gandaki River many times and also have experience of gorge today. A final demanding ascend brings you today’s destination Namrung.

Day 08 Trek to Samagaon (3585m) – 6/7 hour

Today from Namrung, the morning walk in the trail lead to Long Mani stone wall near Lho Gaun & Pungen Glacier mass. Night stay at Lho.

Day 09 Acclimatization Day & Hike to Pungyen Gompa or Manaslu Base Camp- 5/6 hour exploration

Today is dedicated to acclimatization at Sama Gaon to help prevent altitude sickness. As part of the acclimatization process, you’ll embark on a hike to Pungyen Gompa, located to the east of the Nubra Valley. A packed lunch is required for this hike.

At the hilltop, you will be rewarded with stunning views of Manaslu. You’ll also spot Himalayan Thars and Yaks grazing nearby.

Another option is to hike to Manaslu Base Camp, located north of Sama Gong. To reach it, follow the trail past Birendra Tal and turn left to access the base camp route.

The hike follows steady trails, but the altitude may make breathing more difficult. It’s important to stay hydrated and walk at a slow pace. If you take your time, you will reach the Manaslu Base Camp at 4,400 meters (14,435 feet) after traversing the Manaslu Glacier. After spending some time at the camp, you will return to Sama Gaon.

Alternatively, you may choose a shorter hike to Birendra Tal, which is close to Sama Gong. This is a good option if you need a lighter day or are feeling the effects of the altitude.

Day 10 Trek to Samdo (3860m) - 4/5 hour

On this day, you will arrive at your next destination, Samdo. Since you are at a high altitude, the trek is relatively short, and you’ll need to walk slowly. Along the way, you’ll pass vast yak pastures in a wide valley, dotted with long mani walls and various bird species.

As you continue, you’ll leave the treeline behind and climb to a ridge, crossing a wooden bridge over the Buri Gandaki river before reaching White Kani. This small village, located near Samdo, is known for its picturesque scenery and yak herding.

Upon reaching Samdo, you have the option to explore the nearby villages or hike up to Samdo Peak. The Larkya La trail starts to the left, above the valley. You will also notice the main route to Tibet, which passes over the Larjyang La, located on the slopes of the Larkya La trail.

Day 11Trek to Dharamsala/Larkya Base Camp (4460m) - 4/5 hour

Today’s hike is relatively easy, lasting about 3 hours. Although Dharmsala may seem close from Samdo, the high altitude makes the trek slightly longer and more challenging.

This is another adventurous day at high altitude, so it’s important to pay close attention to how your body feels throughout the journey.

As you walk slowly across the rugged terrain of the Manaslu region, you’ll be treated to stunning views of the Himalayan range before reaching Dharmsala.

Day 12 Cross Larkya la Pass (5106m) & Trek to Bimthang (3720m) - 8 /9 hour

Today is a significant day as you will reach the highest point of the trek. You will be walking to Larkya La Pass, situated at 5,106 meters. The journey can be challenging, especially in bad weather or snow, but it is achievable.

To ensure you reach the pass in the morning, you’ll need to wake up early, around 3 a.m. After breakfast, you will depart from the teahouse early.

Once you reach the pass, the breathtaking views will make the effort worthwhile. From here, you’ll see Himlung (7,126m/ 23,379 ft), Kang Guru (6,981m/ 22,903 ft), and Annapurna II (7,937m/ 26,040 ft) in the Annapurna Range.

After spending some time at the pass, you will begin your descent towards Bimthang for an overnight stay. The 3-hour walk down offers spectacular views of towering icefalls and mountains in every direction, as well as the scenic Pongkar Tal, located between the Pongkar and Salpu Danda Glaciers.

Day 13 Trek to Tilije (2300m) - 5/6 hour

While descending to Saguri Kharka, you will not miss the majestic views of Mt. Manaslu, Lamjung Himal, Himlung Himal including others. You will descend through pine, rhododendron forests including other vegetation today. You will also enjoy the picturesque terraced farm field before arriving Tilije where you halt for the day.

Day 14 Trek to Tal (1700m) – 5/6 hour

As you resume the trek today, you will have Buddhist vibes as you walk through Mane wall, Chortens on a ridge while heading to Tonje village. From Tilije, you will have a magnificent view of Mt. Manaslu. After passing through a couple of settlements such as Dharapani, Karte you will come to today’s destination, Tal.

Day 15 Trek to Syange (1080m) 6 /7 hour

Today is the final day of your actual trek, and you will be walking on the lower portion of Annapurna Circuit today. You will cross Myarshangdi River and arrive in Chamje. You will move ahead beholding the beauty of farmland and descend through pine and rhododendron forest before reaching Syange where your trek officially ends. Overnight at Syanje.

Day 16 Drive to Kathmandu (1400m) – 7/8 hour drive

Today, we will drive to Kathmandu. You will have a scenic drive since you will see gushing rivers, green vegetation on board. You will arrive in Kathmandu in the afternoon. After freshen up, you may have time to purchase souvenir for your friends and relatives. We will take you for a farewell dinner tonight.

Day 17Final departure

You will depart from Kathmandu today unless you extend your Nepal trip. We will drop you to the airport as per your flight schedule. You will fly back to your home with a memory to cherish forever.

Permits for Manaslu Circuit Trek:

The Manaslu trek is a restricted region. You need a special permit in addition to the regular trekking permit and a guide to do the trek. The three different permits you need are Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (RAP), Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP), and Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP).

Remember, you cannot issue the special permit by yourself meaning only a licensed trekking agency can issue it due to its restricted status.
