The Dhampus to Australian Camp is a short journey that introduces you to the beauty of the Annapurna Region. Home to countless trekking routes, the region offers a unique experience as you journey through ancient Gurung villages learning more about the local culture and way of life. A short adventure, the journey is ideal if you are short on time or simply want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city areas.

Each day adds something new to your adventure and the journey will be over before you know it. The trail takes us to the town of Dhampus, accompanying the Himalayas due north. Alongside the stunning views of Mt. Machhapuchhre (6,997m), the trail takes us through ancient monasteries and temples.

An easy journey, the trail is an ideal one for beginners and offers a lovely introduction to the world of trekking. Crossing the quaint Gurung villages of Phedi and Pothana, the trail takes you around the foothills of the Annapurna Range. A mesmerizing experience, the journey takes us through the picturesque Annapurna Region for a relaxing experience.

Our hilly adventure begins in the town of Pokhara from where we head north to reach the trailhead of Phedi. Ascending towards Dhital Village, we reach the town of Dhampus for our first night on the go. The next stretch of the journey takes us towards Pothana which offers incredible views of Mt. Machhapuchhre (6,997m).

Exploring the quaint Gurung village, the trail drops down towards the Australian Camp- located at an altitude of 2,100m. A vantage point to some of the majestic summits of the Annapurna Himalayan Range, the camp offers a lovely respite from the crowded cities. The camp offers a perfect spot to enjoy scenic sunrise and sunset views. Dropping down to the village of Kande, we conclude our hilly adventure before setting off towards Pokhara.

Outline Itinerary

Day 01: Drive from Pokhara to Phedi, 1 Hrs, and trek to Dhampus (1650 m), 3-4 Hrs

Day 02: Trek from Dhampus to Australian camp (2100m) via Pothana (1990m), 5-6 Hrs

Day 03: Trek down from Australian Camp to Kande (1706 m) and Back to Pokhara

Cost Includes

  • Accommodation during the trekking in a teahouse/Lodge
  • All three meals on the trek (breakfast, lunch, dinner), fruits after dinner, and tea/coffee (3 times a day)
  • Government certified English speaking trekking guide
  • The entire cost of the staff members involved in the trek (their salary, insurance, equipment, food, and accommodation)
  • Porters (one porter for every two trekkers) and his entire expenses (salary, food, accommodation equipment, and insurance)
  • Charges of all necessary documentation and permits that include a permit for Annapurna Conservation Area perm, Trekkers Information Management Systems (TIMS) Card

Cost Excludes

  • Nepal visa and International flight fare.
  • Expenses for your clothing and personal gear
  • Your personal equipment and other expenses such as mineral water, soft beverages, laundry, hot drinking water on the trek, bar bills, showers, internet, battery chargers etc. 
  • Your travel insurance covers helicopter evacuation as well as medical expenses and trip cancellation
  • Tipping to the guide, porter, and drivers
  • Any other expenses not itemized in the “What is Included in the Trip cost? ” are your personal expenses.

Day 1 Drive from Pokhara to Phedi, 1 Hrs and trek to Dhampus (1650 m), 3-4 Hrs

The first day of our short trek, we begin our journey heading towards Phedi. From Pokhara, the journey heads due west continuing past Milan Chowk and Hyangja to reach Phedi, located on the banks of Ghobang Khola. From Phedi, the trail ascends north to reach Dhital village before turning back west. Journeying through the lush green forests, the final stretch of the trek takes us past a small lake to reach Dhampus for the night.

Day 2 Trek from Dhampus to Australian camp (2100m) via Pothana (1990m), 5-6 Hrs

Continuing our journey due north, the hilly trail ascends past Dhampus to reach Deurali. The next stretch of the trek takes us on an ascending journey to Pothana. The Gurung village boasts enchanting views of Mt. Machhapuchhre (6,997m) alongside the Annapurna Himalayan Range. The descending stretches of the journey see us head down towards the Australian Camp, located at an altitude of 2,100m.

Day 3 Trek down from Australian Camp to Kande (1706 m) and Back to Pokhara

The day begins with stunning views of the Annapurna Himalayan Range colored golden by the rays of the morning sun. Taking some time off to explore the region, we begin our descending hike heading towards Pokhara. From the Australian Camp, the trail heads south dropping onto Golddanda. Meeting up with the banks of Dhoti Khola, we head make our way due east to reach Kande. The final stretch of the trek sees us journey back to the town of Pokhara, bringing our short adventure to a close.

Clothing:

  • Trekking Boots: Sturdy, well-broken-in boots with good ankle support. (Can be Rented in Thamel)
  • Hiking Socks: Moisture-wicking and comfortable socks for long walks.
  • Trekking Pants: Lightweight, quick-drying pants with zip-off legs for versatility.
  • Base Layers: Moisture-wicking thermal tops and bottoms for warmth.
  • T-Shirts: Breathable, quick-drying shirts for trekking.
  • Fleece Jacket or Sweater: Insulating layer for warmth.
  • Down Jacket: Lightweight and compressible for extra warmth at higher altitudes. (Can be Rented in Thamel)
  • Waterproof Jacket and Pants: Windproof and waterproof for protection against rain and snow.
  • Gloves and Hat: Warm gloves and a hat to protect against cold temperatures.
  • Buff or Neck Gaiter: Versatile for protecting your neck and face from wind and sun.

Accessories:

  • Daypack: Comfortable daypack for carrying essentials during daily treks.
  • Sleeping Bag: Warm and suitable for low temperatures at higher altitudes. (Can be Rented)
  • Trekking Poles: Adjustable trekking poles for stability and support. (Can be Rented)
