Lower Dolpo Trek is a remote region trek that takes travelers to the far-flung area of Nepal. You will encounter true wilderness with pristine water lakes, beautiful alpine topography, and woods. The trek offers local cultures; the local denizens in the area exhibit Tibetan-like culture. You will be trekking in the Shey Phoksundo National Park which is home to many species of flora and fauna that includes Himalayan musk deer, and blue sheep. For sure, this trek will offer you a memory to cherish forever.

As per your expectations, you will have spectacular views of the mountains. Also, you can examine your endurance while passing through the high passes in the area: the Baga La Pass (5,070m) and the Numala Pass (5360m).

The trek takes you through the villages which exhibit ancient cultures and traditions. It exposes you to the high land that reminds you of Tibetan geography. The other attraction of the trek is Shey Phoksundo National Park which is one of the leading national parks of Nepal. You will feel like you are in a different world as you will be walking among rocks, forests, and mountains. Shey Phoksundo Lake is the other attraction of the region. Exploration of local monasteries gives you Buddhist insight. Moreover, you will not miss observing the different lifestyles of the people of this remote part of the planet.

We have carefully developed this itinerary so that you can explore almost all the hidden treasures of this remote part of Nepal. We provide full board meals during the trek and offer you decent accommodation. But, you should also spend nights in tents as tea house accommodation is not available in all the places on the trekking route. We are committed to starting the trek on your convenient date and time and are also flexible to amend the itinerary at your convenience. Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1400m)

Day 02: Kathmandu sightseeing tour and trek preparation (1400m)

Day 03: Fly to Nepalgunj (150m) - a 45-minute flight

Day 04: Fly to Juphal (Dolpa) and trek to Dunai (2140m) – 30 minutes flight and 2/3 hour trek

Day 05: Trek to Tarakot (2537m) – 5/6 hour

Day 06: Trek to Laini (3370m) – 6/7 hour

Day 07: Trek to Nawarpani (3475m/11) – 5/6 hour

Day 08: Trek to Dho Tarap (3944m) - 7/8 hour

Cost Includes

  • Airport pick-up and drop service in a private vehicle
  • Welcome dinner and farewell dinner.
  • Twin-sharing accommodation in Kathmandu and Nepalgunj at a tourist standard hotel along with breakfast
  • Accommodation during the trekking in a teahouse/Lodge and a tent as per the necessity as it is a remote region trek and tea houses are not available in all the places

  • Your travel insurance which covers helicopter evacuation as well as medical expenses and trip cancellation

Day 1 Arrival in Kathmandu (1400m)

Our representative will see you at the Tribhuwan International airport in Kathmandu and transfer you to your respective hotel. We will brief you about the trek in the evening today. Tonight, we will take you out for dinner where you can enjoy typical Nepali cultural programs.

Day 2 Kathmandu sightseeing tour and trek preparation (1400m)

We will take you sightseeing in Kathmandu today. Our guide will escort you to the main tourist destinations in Kathmandu; some of them are enlisted under UNESCO world heritage sites. You will be delighted to visit this ancient city. You will return to your hotel in the afternoon and have time for trek preparation. Overnight at Kathmandu.

Day 3 Fly to Nepalgunj (150m)

From Kathmandu, you will fly to Nepaljung-a tropical city in southern Nepal. After freshening up, you can go around Nepalgunj to see the place and life of people in this city bordering India. Overnight at Nepalgunj.

Day 4 Fly to Juphal (Dolpa) and trek to Dunai (2140m)

You will fly to Jhupal of Dolpa today. However, often the flights from Nepalgunj to Dolpa are affected due to weather, so we expect your patience in any such case. The 35 minutes thrilling flight takes you to Jhupal. After that, you will trek to Dunai- the district headquarter of Dolpa.

Day 5 Trek to Tarakot (2537m)

As you leave Dunai, you will walk alongside the Thuli Bheri River. You will ascend on a steep path on a ridge after crossing a river. Further, you will walk through the pine forest to reach Lawan. A further walk takes you to Tarakot- a place with terraced farm fields. Overnight at Tarakot.

Day 6 Trek to Laini (3370m)

Today, a windy path takes you across a river. After that, you will have a pleasant walk through farmland and ascend to the southern part of the Thuli Bheri River. As you walk further, you will enjoy views of the forest and the confluence of rivers. Walking through woods and alongside a gorge takes you to today’s destination Laini.

Day 7 Trek to Nawarpani (3475m)

Today, you will resume the trek on a moderate trail followed by a quick ascent to a steep path. You will have a scenic walk through the forest, near waterfalls and rivers before arriving in today’s destination Nawarpani. Overnight at Nawarpani.

Day 8 Trek to Dho Tarap (3944m)

Today, you will have an exciting walk crossing caves, waterfalls, rivers, and cliffs. Mane Wall, Chortens are the other attraction of today’s walk. After passing a couple of settlements including Seram, you will arrive at today’s destination Dho Tarap. Overnight at Dho Tarap.

Day 9 Acclimatization day at Dho Tarap (3944m)

You will stay at Dho Tarap for acclimatization. You will explore the place; it is a village with stone houses. People of the Magar tribe and some of Tibetan origin reside in this village. It is worth exploring local Doro and Sipchhong monasteries which depict the culture and artworks. Overnight at Dho Tarap.

Day 10 Trek to Numa La Base Camp (4,440m)

Today, you will walk alongside the Tarap Chu River with the lush green vegetation on the bank. A further walk takes you to Tokyu village where lies a beautiful monastery. A walk on a rough trail takes you to the valley and finally to Numa La Base Camp where you halt for the day.

Day 11 Cross Numa La (5238m) and trek to Phelung Tang (4465m)

Today is going to be a tougher day compared to the previous days as you will be passing Numa La Pass. You will have to climb a difficult uphill to reach Numa La Pass, but you will be rewarded with beautiful mountain views such as Kanjirowa, and Dhaulagiri among others. Besides, the Pass offers views of different landscapes and meadows. You will ascend further to reach Phelung Tang.

Day 12 Cross Baga La (5070m) and trek to Dajok Tang (4080m)

Today, you will go for another pass Baga La Pass. You will have a steep climb to Baga La Pass. The Pass offers you a majestic view of Mount Kanjirowa and the dry landscape of the Dolpo region. After feasting your eyes with the views from the Pass, you will climb down to Dajok Tang for an overnight stay.

Day 13 Trek from Dajok Tang to Ringmo (3,600m)

Relatively, it’s a more leisurely day today. On a moderate trail, you will walk through the alpine woods to reach Ringmo. Ringmo is the village that gives you Tibetan vibes. Overnight at Ringmo.

Day 14 Exploration day at Ringmo and a hike to Phoksundo (3600m)

You will explore the Rigmo village to understand the way of local life before hiking to Phoksundo Lake. You can detour temples and monasteries while ascending to Phoksundo. You will enjoy the picturesque view of Phoksundo Lake. You will return to Rigmo for the overnight stay.

Day 15 Trek to Shyanta (2520m)

You will walk through huge rocks and different unique topography of the Dolpa district. Passing through a hamlet, you will arrive at today’s destination Shyanta. Overnight at Shyanta.

Day 16 Trek from Shyanta to Juphal (2475m)

Today, you will walk through the alpine forests. During today’s trail, you will also have fantastic views of the mountains. You will arrive in Jhupal in the afternoon and explore the area after checking into your hotel. Overnight at Jhupal.

Day 17 Fly to Nepalgunj and then to Kathmandu (1400m)

You will fly to Nepalgunj from Juphal airport in Dolpa and take a connecting flight to Kathmandu subsequently. We will take you to your hotel in Kathmandu. After freshening up, you can explore Thamel and purchase a souvenir for your family and friends. We will take you out for farewell dinner tonight.

Day 18 Departure day (1400m)

Today is your final day in Nepal for this time. Our staff will drop you at the Tribhuvan International Airport for final departure.
