The Annapurna region is considered one of the most naturally stunning valleys in the nation. Marked by the Annapurna Himalayan Range, the region is adorned with lush green forests filled with oak, Sal, and rhododendron trees. The valley is home to the ethnic Gurung clan and offers a diverse experience in terms of culture, values, and traditions.

Passed down from generation to generation the populace still retains an ancient way of life. The hilly trail guides us through quaint monasteries and ancient temples reminiscent of the ancient Gurung heritage. The journey brings us to the vibrant village of Ghandruk, well known for its welcoming populace and stunning views of Machhapuchhre (6,997m).

Overlooking the Himalayas, the picturesque town of Dhampus makes for a relaxing end to our Himalayan adventure. The Short Trek around Annapurna explores some of the most underrated regions that are often overlooked. The journey is a pleasant one and leaves you wanting more at the end of it. A short trek, it is ideal for beginners or even veterans if you are seeking an escape from the crowded trails around the Himalayas.

The Short Annapurna Trek begins in the picturesque town of Pokhara. From the trailhead at Nayapul, we accompany the banks of the Modi Khola River due north, heading towards the vibrant town of Ghandruk. Enjoying the mesmerizing views of Machhapuchhre (6,997m), the journey ascends towards Tolka village. In the shadow of the Annapurna Himalayan Range, the next stretch of our adventure sees us ascend towards Pitam Deurali, continuing to reach the temple of Kumkum.

With the Himalayan summits of Annapurna South (7,219m) and Hiunchuli (6,441m) forming a magnificent backdrop, the final stretch of our journey takes us down to Dhampus. Exploring the quaint hilly town, we make our way back to the town of Pokhara, bringing our stunning adventure to a close.

Outline Itinerary

Day 01: Drive from Pokhara to Nayapul, 2 Hrs and Trek to Ghandruk (1940m), 4-5 Hrs

Day 02: Trek from Ghandruk to Tolka (1700m), 5-6 Hrs

Day 03: Trek from Tolkha to Dhampus (1650m), 6-7 Hrs and drive to Pokhara, 1.5 Hrs

Cost Includes

  • Accommodation during the trekking in a teahouse/Lodge
  • All three meals on the trek (breakfast, lunch, dinner), fruits after dinner and tea/coffee (3 times a day)
  • Government certified English speaking trekking guide
  • The entire cost of the staff members involved in the trek (their salary, insurance, equipment, food, and accommodation)
  • Porters (one porter for every two trekkers) and his entire expenses (salary, food, accommodation equipment, and insurance)
  • Charges of all necessary documentation and permits that include a permit for Annapurna Conservation Area perm, Trekkers Information Management Systems (TIMS) Card

Cost Excludes

  • Nepal visa and International flights fare.
  • Expenses for your clothing and personal gears
  • Your personal equipment and other expenses such as mineral water, soft beverages, laundry, hot drinking water on the trek, bar bills, showers, internet, battery chargers etc. 
  • Your travel insurance that covers helicopter evacuation as well as medical expenses and trip cancellation
  • Tipping to the guide, porter, and drivers
  • Any other expenses not itemized in the “What is Included in the Trip cost? ” are your personal expenses.

Day 1 Drive from Pokhara to Nayapul, 2 Hrs and Trek to Ghandruk (1940m), 4-5 Hrs

The first day of our Short Trek around Annapurna, we begin our adventure heading towards the picturesque village of Ghandruk. From Pokhara, we make our way towards Nayapul, driving through pleasant hilly landscapes and vibrant Gurung hamlets. From Nayapul, the trail ascends on the banks of the Modi Khola, heading towards Birethanti. The next stretch of the trek takes us towards Chimrong, continuing the journey towards Syauli Bazaar. Past Bhichu, we make our way west, leaving the river bank to reach Kilu. The final stretch of the journey takes us past Kimche, Chane, and Kyumi to reach Ghandruk for the night.

Day 2 Trek from Ghandruk to Tolka (1700m), 5-6 Hrs

An early start to the day, we begin our journey with close views of Mt. Machhapuchhre (6,997m). After enjoying a lovely Gurung breakfast, we begin our descending journey towards the village of Tolka. Retracing our steps back to the hamlet of Kyumi, we follow the hilly trail due east, continuing onto Landruk. Exploring the quaint Gurung village, we set off on a descending run, making our way towards the temple of Kumkum. Crossing a suspension bridge to reach Midi, the final stretch of the journey sees us drop down to Tolka for the night.

Day 3 Trek from Tolkha to Dhampus (1650m), 6-7 Hrs and drive to Pokhara, 1.5 Hrs

The final day of our Himalayan adventure, we begin our journey heading towards the town of Dhampus. From Tolka, the trail drops down to a series of flag-stone steps before reaching Pitam Deurali. Enjoying the mesmerizing views of Annapurna South (7,219m) and Hiunchuli (6,441m), we drop down to Pothana which hosts enchanting views of Machhapuchhre (6,997m). The final stretch of the trek takes us past Deurali village to reach Dhampus from where we catch a bus ride back to Pokhara.

Clothing:

  • Trekking Boots: Sturdy, well-broken-in boots with good ankle support. (Can be Rented in Thamel)
  • Hiking Socks: Moisture-wicking and comfortable socks for long walks.
  • Trekking Pants: Lightweight, quick-drying pants with zip-off legs for versatility.
  • Base Layers: Moisture-wicking thermal tops and bottoms for warmth.
  • T-Shirts: Breathable, quick-drying shirts for trekking.
  • Fleece Jacket or Sweater: Insulating layer for warmth.
  • Down Jacket: Lightweight and compressible for extra warmth at higher altitudes. (Can be Rented in Thamel)
  • Waterproof Jacket and Pants: Windproof and waterproof for protection against rain and snow.
  • Gloves and Hat: Warm gloves and a hat to protect against cold temperatures.
  • Buff or Neck Gaiter: Versatile for protecting your neck and face from wind and sun.
